Mothwa Haven Durban Old Age Home
502 Che Guevara Rd, Glenwood, Durban, KwaZulu-Natal
Mothwa Haven is an old age home in Glenwood, Durban. The MOTHWA bought the property in 1967; residents who are members of the MOTHWA pay no deposit. The home provides three types of care: independent care for residents who can manage their own daily living activities and decisions, with limited supervision; semi-frail/assisted living care, which bridges independent living and a nursing home and includes services for early dementia, with around-the-clock nursing care; and frail care, with a fully-fledged on-site clinic and nursing duty station for residents with advanced health needs, most of whom are a combination of Alzheimer's and Dementia, cared for under a personalised long-term medical treatment plan. Frail care rooms are shared, while semi-frail and independent living residents have single rooms. The home has an on-call doctor, access to a speech therapist, physiotherapist and wound care, and an in-house salon and beauty therapy. Accommodation is charged as a monthly levy that includes meals, laundry, housekeeping, 24-hour nursing care and 24-hour security.
Typical costs for old age homes in South Africa
We do not have Mothwa Haven Durban Old Age Home’s own fees. As a general guide:
Private old age homes charge R6,000–R20,000/month. NGO and church-run homes are often subsidised and accept SASSA pension (currently R2,400/month). Government-subsidised beds are limited and often have waiting lists.
These are typical South African ranges for this type of care, not this home’s prices. Actual fees vary by room type, level of care, and area, and they change every year - always confirm current rates with the home.
