The Bell House

Allens Nek, Roodepoort, Gauteng

Psychiatric / Special Needs

The Bell House is an adult life skills training centre in Allens Nek, Roodepoort, registered with the Department of Social Development as NPO 254-042. It supports adults living with burnout, trauma and stress, and with mental health conditions including depression, anxiety, bipolar mood disorder and schizophrenia. The structured programme runs Monday to Friday and covers life skills workshops, arts and crafts, exercise classes, music appreciation, coaching and community service, with the aim of improving self-awareness, emotional regulation and relationships with family and friends. Clients may attend part time or full time, and those who wish to live in for the duration of the programme are accommodated in shared or single rooms and take part in the daily running of the house. There is 24-hour on-site supervision from a trained live-in supervisor, and the house operates a zero tolerance policy on drugs and alcohol. The Bell House describes the service as voluntary and sets an admission gate: it supports adults with mild to moderate psychiatric disorders who are already under the care of their own psychiatrist, emotionally stable and compliant in taking their own medication, and physically fit enough to manage their own personal hygiene with minimal support. Preference is given to adults over 40. It is a drug and alcohol free residence and states that it cannot be held responsible for a client who leaves the premises during the programme.
