Serenitas Aftree-Oord
51 General Hertzog St, Dan Pienaar, Bloemfontein, Free State
Serenitas Aftree-Oord is a retirement village in Dan Pienaar, Bloemfontein. Its first phase was established in 1994 and a second phase followed in 1996. It is run by a board of trustees with a management team. Accommodation is a mix of one-bedroom flats and one-, two- and three-bedroom houses. An on-site care unit - operated under the name SereniCare, and contracted out rather than run in-house - consists of 29 flats, 2 wards and 3 single rooms, and makes provision for medically independent residents, medium-dependent residents and fully dependent residents. The grounds are tree-rich with established gardens and a fish dam. Facilities include a swimming pool, a library open on Mondays and Thursdays, a hair salon, hydrotherapy, bowls, table tennis, walking routes and a community hall that residents may use free of charge. Sunday church services and a Wednesday Bible study are held on site, alongside a regular programme of games and social-committee functions. Security is 24-hour, with a response unit, an electric fence with armed-response patrols and cameras, and panic buttons in the houses linked to Netcare 24 assistance. Residents also have a free weekly shuttle to shopping centres, and the village has a borehole holding emergency water. Only 2 small dogs are permitted as pets.
