Goue Aar Tehuis

Goue Aar Tehuis has served the Swartland since 1979. Its stated vision is to deliver a comprehensive care service to elderly people in need, and it describes its residents as becoming family. The home has 64 subsidised beds funded by the Department of Social Development, and it states that 90% of a resident's SASSA grant goes to the home. Accommodation is arranged as two frail-care units and three assisted-living units, the latter for residents who can still manage some tasks themselves; all rooms are double with shared bathrooms. The home states that nursing and care staff are on site around the clock, and that catering and cleaning are contracted to Feedem. It says it meets Department of Social Services, Department of Health and Badisa standards (the home's own wording; the department is now called Social Development). Home care, transport, a health clinic and laundry are offered as value-added services residents can add to their accounts. Day-to-day life includes outings, Bible study, a library, a vegetable garden, and handwork and craft.
